As as proud friend of Ken, I really enjoyed seeing this site. Thank you for sharing it. I never met your father, but now feel as though I have. Myself being a person that would never sell out on my values, the Eulog is an especially inspiring story. Finally, the great Mr. Schiff gets the peace and rest he deserves for eternity. He is indeed a silent hero.

I've known Steve for over 40 years whe he was my best friend in junior high. And I knew Len, Sybil and the kids, but only through the eyes of a child.
I knew Steve was special since at the age of 13, he was protesting to ban the bomb. Now I know where he received his principles.
Steve, you should be proud of your father.

I lived with him for 52 years, and I loved him for 66 years.

I have so many memories all colliding. Mostly I remember his hands...so huge and powerful with his light olive colored skin stretched tightly over muscle. I even remember calluses on his knuckles.

But when he spoke (I don't remember a lot of speaking) he used those hands in a gentle and expressive way. Everything about him was big: The feet. The legs. His head, even.

But, man oh man, that when that smile took over his face...there wasn't room any longer for his eyes. They became slits to make room for the smile.

His teeth always surprised me. They were little and had little spaces between them....almost like a child's. Sometimes he smiled like that without any sound. Usually he was watching you [Sybil] do something very Sybilish. His head cocked to the side, smiling and watching. Sometimes he's shake his head a little bit. Watch and smile. I always thought he loved you so deeply.

[These words about Len were written in a note to Sybil.]

My encounters with Len were unfortunately very limited but I know that anyone who could have a son as special as Steve had to be a very special man. My condolences to the whole family.

Our history goes back to 1940's when Len was in the construction busy in Florida and He and Sybil were newlyweds!
