Len Schiff ~ A Memorial

Saul Leonard Schiff

Len Schiff

Len Schiff was born in Lublin, Poland on March 31, 1918. He was a husband, father, friend to many, and a courageous fighter for social justice.

A self-taught builder, he was responsible for many municipal works in Miami, Florida, including the Dade County Auditorium, Miami Incinerator, and the Christopher Columbus statue in Biscayne Park. He even converted the Orange Bowl from a "horseshoe" to a "bowl" by adding the final piece of that construction.

Hunted down by McCarthyism in 1954, he went to jail rather than answer the questions of that kangaroo court.

He died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, February, 28, 2006. He was 31 days shy of his 88th birthday. He was an idealist to the end, and, despite the fact that he did not see world peace in his lifetime, he insisted on making a contribution even after his death: at his request, his body was donated to the University of California Medical School.

He will live forever in the hearts, minds and souls of those he touched.

This web site is a celebration of his life. Please browse, read, express, and enjoy...
